We’re back from our big vacation of the year: a week up in Minocqua with all of Drew’s family. It was gorgeous weather and great socializing/ eating/ lounging/ swimming/ biking/ more eating… you get the idea. So I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but what can I say? It was a very photogenic week.
We spent a lot of time just relaxing down by the dock. I’m no longer able to do the kind of vacation reading that I did pre-Junip, but it was nice just to sit in the sun, and with her feet in the water, Junip is actually a surprisingly patient lounger.
We made another trip to the Minocqua zoo (amazing!). I thought Junip would be old enough to appreciate the animals, but she was mostly just interested in the rocks.
Giraffe kisses for everyone! It really doesn’t ever get old. Speaking of kisses, Juniper learned a new trick!
Real kisses, not just face lickings! She even makes the little “mmm” sound when she comes at you with lips puckered! Actually, with the giraffe though, Junip never did get a kiss. She ate the carrot herself! Poor giraffe.
The birds were almost exciting.
Ollie Mae, on the other hand, loved the animals! Baby goat meets baby baby.
This is what a 17 person shoe pile looks like. It was kinda funny watching it grow in the beginning of the week, as more families arrived, and dwindle down as people headed home (there was only one day that all five sibs and families overlapped).
Ollie had her first tastes of real food! This was possibly as exciting for Bear and Harley as it was for her. Oh, what treats lie in store. Meal time with Junip is almost enough to make me want a dog of our own.
Snuggling and card games.
And badminton! Sorry, Hutch – that photo made me laugh out loud. Clearly it had to go on the blog.
Junip working her charm.
Paella! (And Jill!) We brought the pan up, and Drew made a huge fire and enough food for the whole crew plus leftovers!
Baby love. It was so cute watching these two interact. Ollie is just big enough to be curious, and to reach out and touch. Junip was mostly indifferent, unless Ollie had one of her animal nuks, and then she had Junip’s full attention, for as long as it took to steal the nuk. But really, it’s a shame we don’t live closer. These two would be besties.
A little mini golf. This girl did her best to steal all the golf balls.
We went for a bike ride and had Drew haul both babies. Junip kept taking Ollie’s nuk, inciting tears, so we gave her Drew’s wallet as a distraction. Both babies had a ball throwing money like confetti, and when all the toys (wallet, cash, nuks) had found their way to the floor of the carrier where neither girl could reach, Junip comforted Olllie by letting her chew on her fingers. Too sweet. Notice the five under Junip’s leg? Ha.
A little family tube ride, with Ollie driving (just kidding!). And that pretty much sums it up!
Gotta love summer in the North Woods.
