At last, it has begun! The oven, that is. A couple weeks ago Drew and Chad took the plunge and started this bad boy. It’s looking to be a pretty monumental project… which is code for, it won’t be done for a year or two. Especially because Drew has decided to go masonry, rather than cobb. Which will be much more attractive and lasting, but also more difficult and expensive. Just pouring the concrete slab for it ended up being an all day affair, between getting the van, tool rentals, frame building, mixing, pouring, clean up, and returns.

It took twenty two (!) 80lb bags just for the base. Luckily we had Junip to unload it for us.

Honestly, even if this is as far as it goes until next spring, I’m ok with that. It just looks so much nicer to have a clean, smooth slab rather than the weedy little gravel pit we had been rocking. Here’s to beginnings!
